SRCA NEWS AND NOTES: THE LAST EDITION

OUR NEW WEBSITE WILL BE LIVE SHORTLY. CHECK BACK HERE TO BE REDIRECTED TO THE NEW SITE FOR CHRIST CHURCH!

SOUTH RIDING CHURCH IS RELAUNCHING: THE INAUGAURAL WORSHIP SERVICE OF CHRIST CHURCH
Christ Church came into being in 1999, and in 2005 adopted the name, "South Riding Church, Anglican." Sunday we re-launch as "Christ Church." Why, the curious person asks. What difference does the name really make? Biblicaly, names had great significance, and God changed the names of some people to represent what was spiritually true. The leadership of Christ Church feels this is the case with our church. While it was founded around a dining room table in South Riding, the church now meets just outside of that community. Losing the geographic name says we are open to all who wish to attend, regardless of where they live. Our primary identity is not in where we are, but in who we worship and serve, Jesus, who is the Christ. There are many other reasons why the vestry has moved to change our name to Christ Church. Please talk with any vestry person, or with the rector if you would like more information.

BAPTISM
is the rite of Christian initiation into the Church. When we baptize a young child, we are inviting God's intentional action in the life of the child, and we are marking him or her as a child being raised to inherit God's promises. We are also saying that we, as a church, will stand with the parents and assist in helping the child come to know and follow Jesus. This Sunday we have the great joy of baptizing Liliauna Xyxi Whitlock, daughter of Rebecca Whitlock, and granddaughter of Gail Haddock and Don Holt. Join us in that celebration.

A SPECIAL BIRTHDAY OFFERING
is being received on Sunday. As we celebrate the rebirth of SRCA as Christ Church, so let us celebrate and give thanks for our own birth, and for our rebirth in Christ Jesus our Lord. The special offering will go to the rector's discretionary fund to help us continue being Christ's hands those with emergency needs in our area. Each person will be invited to come and drop their birthday thanksgiving offering in the box labeled with the day of the week on which they were born.

PRAYERS FOR THE PARISH
will be held on Tuesday, October 1st, at the church at 7:15. Please join in the important work of praying for God's best for our parish and for this area. Remember, "Prayer doesn't prepare us for the battle. Prayer IS the battle."

OUR GHANA TEAM
will share next Sunday, October 6th. Come hear what the Lord is doing to bring hope to the children and adults of our village, and hear how you can be a part of it next summer!

WOMEN'S BIBLE STUDY
will resume on Tuesday evening, October 8th. The study will meet every other week from 7:00 – 8:15 at Melinda's house to discuss Paul's Letter to the Philippians in a study called, "To Live is Christ, To Die is Gain. This is a video based study, and participants can access the video component at home. Please sign up so we can have a book for you.
