News and Notes

Dear Parish Family,

I am pleased to share the news that Brad and Maria Bennink have accepted a call t o become our new Children's Ministry Coordinators. We look forward to going from strength to strength with our Children's ministry under their very capable and creative leadership. Please keep them in your prayers in the weeks ahead.

The Sunday following Pentecost is the only Sunday in the church calendar set aside to honor and celebrate a doctrine – the doctrine of the Trinity. "The Lord our God is one," but he reveals himself to us as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, all distinct, but all one God. Simply said, it's a mystery!

Our readings for this Sunday are drawn form the lectionary in The Book of Common Prayer instead of those in the Revised Common Lectionary. Those readings include: Isaiah 6:1-8, Psalm 29,
Revelation 4:1-11, and John 16:5-15. In the Isaiah reading we hear a description of God the Father, in
Revelation a description of the God seated on the throne. From John we hear Jesus describing the work and role of the Holy Spirit.

Belief in the Trinity is one of the Christian distinctives. When people suggest that all religions worship the same God the lack an understanding of the Christian God. As Christian people it is important to understand, as far as our finite minds will permit, the God who created us and loves us, the God to whom we offer our love and our very lives.

I'm so thankful to be a part of RCA –I pray you are too! See you on Sunday! It won't be the same without you!!

SRCA News and Notes

On Sunday we will celebrate the 7th Sunday of Easter. Next May 23rd  we celebrate Pentecost (wear red). Even though our Sundays of Easter are coming to a close, did you know that each and every Sunday is a celebration of Easter, the day each week when we intentionally set aside time to worship Jesus and to recall what God has done for us in his life, death, and resurrection. Each Sunday is a "little Easter" of sorts.

On May 16th our readings include Acts 16:16-34, Psalm 97, Revelation 22:12-21, and John 17:20-26. In the morning message I plan to focus on the passage from Revelation, and will also tie in a section of the Acts reading.

C.S. Lewis makes this statement in Christian Reflections, "There is no neutral ground in the universe: every square inch, every split second, is claimed by God and counterclaimed by Satan." In Sunday's message we will examine the concept of absolute truth alongside the reality that good is good, and that evil is evil, and that God sets the standard.

When we deny the existence of__________________________________ we have put ______________________ on the throne, and we are guilty of _____________________.

Please plan to join us! God has great things in store for our church. Let's all pitch in and be a part of what God is doing!

In Christ,

Becki+

SRCA News and Notes

Dear Parish Family,

Please join us in praying for the women in our lives who have been "mom" to us in one way or another. On Sunday we will offer a prayer of blessing for all women in their life and work.

Sunday we celebrate the 6th Sunday of Easter, with just one more to go, and then – Pentecost! Our readings today include Acts 16:6-15, Psalm 67, Revelation 21:10, 22-22:5 and John 14:23-29.

In Acts we hear of Paul being guided to the place where God would have him establish a church –the first Christian church on the European continent; and we hear of Lydia, the first Christian convert in Europe. This account is full of material to help us as we build our church and seek to understand our own call to mission and ministry.

Psalm 67 is a psalm of praise and blessing. From the Revelation to John we hear a further account of the New Jerusalem, and from John's gospel, we hear the promise of the Holy Spirit, and of the new command – that we are to love one another.

I'm praying you plan to worship with us – it won't be the same without you. Please come and join in the singing and the prayers as you seek the peace and the presence of the holy God who created you and loves you.
