Christ Church Chatter

WELCOME
to our worship this Sunday, the First Sunday After the Epiphany. The season of Epiphany is symbolized by the color green. Green, the color of growing things, reminds us of the growth and spread of the gospel from Jerusalem, throughout Judea, to Samaria, and to the ends of the earth. Four 21st century followers of Jesus the season is a time to dig in and grow in our faith, and in our effectiveness in being a part of the spread of the gospel to those both near and far. 

GREAT NEWS ABOUT CHECKS
Beginning this Sunday, please make your offering check out to Christ Church. All the paperwork is now finalized, and we are fully operational under our new name.
 
PRAYERS FOR THE PARISH 
will be held next on Tuesday, January 21st. We meet and pray from 7:15 until 8:30. Prayer is our most important work. Please join us.
 
WOMEN'S BIBLE STUDY 
will resume this Tuesday, January 14th. All women are invited and encouraged to attend. The study meets at Melinda's home from 7:00 – 8:30. It's a great time to join the study! Talk to Melinda or Pastor Becki for the address.

CONFIRMATION 
is the rite of adult affirmation and commitment to Christ. Anyone in grades 9 and up is invited to take the step of faith and be confirmed. One all day class will be held, and some "homework" given. The class will be held on Saturday, February 1st. Please speak to Pastor Becki if you are interested in being confirmed.
 
OUR FAITH PROMISE CAMPAIGN 
is in full swing. Please return your card to the church as soon as possible so our 2014 budget can be finalized.Each family is asked to make a faith promise and to work toward the biblical standard of the tithe.
 
FOOD FOR THE HUNGRY
Please continue to pick up extra non-perishable food items to be donated to our local food pantries. Food items can be brought each Sunday. The need is ever before us to care for those in need. When we have a "full load" it will be delivered to the Chantilly food pantry.
 
OUR VESTRY RETREAT 
will be held on January 17th – 18th. Please keep the vestry and this retreat in your prayers as we take time apart to hear God's direction for the coming year and beyond. 

PLEASANT VALLEY UMC 
is planning to start a tutoring service for local youth. The service will be held at the COC, the building in which we worship. They will be looking for volunteers to serve as tutors. Please pray about volunteering an hour or two of your time for this new outreach. More information will be forth coming.

Christ Church Chatter

WELCOME
to our worship this Sunday when we will celebrate the 4thSunday of Advent with our Children's Christmas Pageant. As the storyline suggests, no matter our circumstances, Christmas gives us a reason to celebrate. Please join in our celebration today as our children remind us of the timeless truth that Jesus is the greatest gift ever given.

FAITH PROMISE CARDS
Today is the planned in-gathering of our faith pledge) cards for 2014. Please place yours in the offering basket. If you forgot to bring yours, please see Jason Wheeler or Paul Branch fro a card. It is ever so helpful to plan our budget based on your estimates of giving. 
 
FOOD FOR THE HUNGRY

CHRISTMAS POINTSETTIAS 
are available for adoption. Please sign up in the narthex for either small or large flower. Only a few large plants will be available. Flowers may be taken home after worship on Christmas Eve, or on the Sunday following Christmas. Small plants are $8.00, and the large are $16.00.
 
CHRISTMAS PAGEANT 
The dress rehearsal will be on Sunday morning, Dec. 22, beginning at 9:00. Please be prompt. Thank you in advance for making this year's pageant a wonderful success.

INTERFAITH DIALOGUE
This coming Sunday, December 22, Pastor Becki will be speaking to a Muslim group about the coming of the Messiah. There will be a time of dialogue and questions and answers. The meeting is scheduled for 3:00-5:00 at the Gum Springs Library. You are all invited to be present and join in the conversation. Your prayers are requested.  

LESSONS AND CAROLS 
On Sunday, December 29th, we will have a service of lessons and carols. This is another wonderful time to invite friends and neighbors to experience our wonderful church community.    
SPECIAL PRAYER REQUESTS
1. Please pray for Meghan N.as she recovers from knee surgery.
2. Please continue to keep Cate R. and daughter Eliza in your daily prayers. Cate recently had surgery, and continues to recover at home.


CHRISTMAS EVE 
worship will begin at 5:00. This service is an ideal time to invite the un-churched or the "de-churched" to come and experience what Christmas is really all about.
