PARISH NEWS

Wonderful things are happening at South Riding Church! Have you told your friends and neighbors about our "Blessing of the Backpack" event on Sunday, August 22nd? Our worship will be "child friendly," and will flow out into the side parking lot for food, fun, and fellowship. This is a "combo-event," designed as an outreach and as fun for our current church family. Please pick up fliers to hand out and to hang up! You are wonderful folks and we have a wonderful church – it's time to share that good news and invite others into the family!

Our readings for Sunday include Genesis 15:1-6, Psalm 33:12-22, Hebrews 11:1-3, 8-16, and Luke 12:32-40. The theme in the readings is having faith. What is the source of our faith? When faith seems scarce, often it is not more faith that we need, but more of Jesus. In every situation we encounter He must increase, and we must decreases (to quote John the Baptist.) When we have more of Jesus – more understanding, more of his Spirit, more of his attributes, our faith will spontaneously increase.  Our thunderous thought for the day is just that, "He must increase, we must decrease." That is especially true as we reach out to grow His church.

The one prayer God will always answer with a yes is when we ask for more of him. As you encounter Him in worship today, ask Him to fill and refill you with his Spirit… more of Him, less of us.

You are the best, and I am so glad you are part of SRCA!

AUGUST 22: SPECIAL WORSHIP EVENT
On Sunday, August 22nd we will have a special worship event. We will begin at 10:00 in the gym with worship in which our children will play a role. All children are invited to bring their back to school backpack for a special blessing. The message will be interactive and include the children and youth who are present. At 11:15 our worship will flow out into the side parking lot and grassy area as we enjoy food, fellowship and games. Face painting and the opportunity to create a backpack for children in Ghana will be available.

Fliers are available to give to your neighbors and friends. Please help spread the word!
We will need help, so look for the sign up sheet on the hospitality table.
